10th ISF Comes To A Close

The 10th edition of the International Security Forum (ISF) came to a close on a high note on 24 April 2013 at the Geneva International Conference Centre (CICG) with keynote addresses from Former President of Finland Ms Tarja Halonen, Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva, Mr Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and SciencesPo Professor Mr Gilles Kepel.

The conference took place in Geneva from 22 to 24 April 2013. During the two and a half days of the conference, the participants were provided with the opportunity to attend 29 thought-provoking sessions on current issues and future trends in global security, and to engage in open exchanges.

This 10th edition contributed to reinforce the role of the ISF as a unique multidisciplinary platform of collaboration among international security professionals around the world and closed with a record participation

  • some 700 speakers, participants and media attended from international horizons,
  • 31% from overseas destinations, 24% from Europe, 45% from Switzerland.


The ISF is a Swiss government contribution to the Partnership for Peace. This 10th edition was hosted by the Geneva Centre for Security Policy (GCSP), and sponsored and co-organised by the Swiss Federal Department of Defence, Civil Protection and Sport and the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs.

The main conference partners included the Geneva Centre for the Democratic Control of Armed Forces, the Geneva International Centre for Humanitarian Demining, the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies, the Center for Security Studies and the International Relations and Security Network at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, and the Partnership for Peace Consortium of Defense Academies and Security Studies Institutes (who organised their 15th Annual Conference in conjunction with the ISF).
